Things to Know
How to find the TunerTo use the tuner in Smartmusic you have to open an assignment. I have created a tuning assignment that can be used to find the tuner, even if you don't have any assignments to work on. The tuner is located in the upper left corner of the assignment page and looks like the picture above, which is a tuning fork.

How to Save your TakesAt the moment, I'm not sure there is a way to save your takes long term. If you sit down to record and have a really awesome take, I suggest you submit it. Shooting for 100% is great, but it might not be realistic every time. If you find you have more time and would like to resubmit something, you can request for the assignment to be reassigned and you will have another opportunity to submit a new score. Use the form below to request a reassign.

Why Smartmusic?I'm using Smartmusic to encourage more practice at home as well as listening for intonation. During orchestra class it's hard for students to hear themselves when we are all playing. Smartmusic allows them to listen critically to themselves alone and evaluate their notes.

ListenClick on the green play button to hear the example being played. Remember to turn on the sound for My Part. This is supposed to default to silent, so to hear the example you will need to turn it on.

PracticePlay along with the example a few times while following the metronome. Really focus on where that beat is because it's pretty picky!!

Record and ReflectAfter playing it a few times, you might be ready to record. Before you hit that button, make sure you are solid in all your fingerings so that you don't waste time making bad recordings. Once you start recording your only options are to submit one of your takes, lose all of your takes or submit one and request a reassignment.

HELP!!!!
*Before you play or record, you can check out the fingerings for each note by clicking on the note and then clicking on the little circle that shows up on the left of the note. It is a circle with 4 dots inside of it. This will show you the correct fingering for that note.
*You can slow down the recording if you need it slower to practice, but remember that you can't submit a take that is not at the metronome setting that assigned. Use this as a tool to help learn the notes.
*Try turning the assessment off during your recording. Click on the assessments tab and un-click "show assessment" This allows you to record without watching the mistakes pop up as you play. Several students have found this helpful since they aren't worried about the mistakes as they are making them.
*CLOSE ALL OTHER APPS!!! This app works best when it's the only one running. When it's able to process faster, it will be more accurate.
